The data (from 2008, the most recent year available) include accidental shootings, suicides, acts of self-defense and crimes.
Very unfortunate it requires such a massive tragedy to bring daily tragedies to the national stage. Regardless, let us discuss solutions, please, without trying to score political points. While Colorado and others grieve, it seems a real dialogue about gun violence would be the least we can do to honor those lost earlier today, and others critically injured.
